K-9

The day began like any other day, getting up at 7:00a.m and getting ready for school but today I didn’t have classes so I was going to spend my day at the Sheriff’s Department. I talked to Deputy Angela Painter the day before and she said they had a detail to do in the morning and that I was more than welcome to come with, but she would tell me what kind of detail it was. I got to post around 8:15 and we left in the squad car for Metamora. All the Deputies and Detectives were at Shell gas station when we came into town. We stopped there and then it was time to meet up at Metamora PD. When we pulled up there, there was two Metamora police cars there, 4 Woodford county squads there, 1 State Police K-9, 2 Peoria city K-9s, 1 Tazewell county K-9 and 1 Woodford county K-9. I was standing there thinking this is going to be a good day! The Metamora Police Chief got a call from the High School and said were ready to go! Everyone mounted up and off to the High School. We ran the dogs around all the cars in the parking lot on both sides of the building and then if the dog would hit on a car, which that means if they alert on a car they would call the student out and have them unlock their car and a Officer or Deputy would search through it. We had a few alerts and no drugs were found. After that myself and Deputy Painter drove around and waited to go to lunch with the others. After lunch we went back to post and I left from there.

DARE

It was one of those mornings again hearing my alarm clocking going off at 5:50am and slow rolling out of bed to get to the bathroom to take a warm shower before I leave. After I took my morning shower, I got my uniform on and went down stairs looking for my winter coat. Today wasn’t a normal ride along day. I was riding with the DARE officer today! But first things first, we were helping out with a seat belt detail just down the road from Metamora High School. I got to the Sheriff’s Office around 6:30 and meant up with Deputy Painter. After she got what she needed from her office we were off to Metamora Police Department to meet up with 2 other deputies and 2 city police officers. After we came up with our plan of attack we got set up. I was a spotter. My job was to stand down the road away from the signs and look for anyone putting their seat belts on and if they were off I would just radio down to the deputy and tell him a description of the car and they would talk to the driver. I stood there for 2 hours and froze to death until school started and then we left. Deputy Painter and I went to Riverview Grade School in Spring Bay to talk to the students. She answered question they had and I talked to them about what the Explorer program is. After being there for a few hours we went for lunch with the other road deputies and then headed back to the Sheriff’s Office to do some other work before going home for the day.

The Night Ride!

It was a Friday night as my friend from Missouri and I sat there trying to think of something to do. I looked at him and asked if he would like to ride alone with a Sheriff Deputy. Brandon said “that would be cool if they would allow me to ride”. I told him I would make a call and find out. The Caption at the Sheriff’s Department told me that was fine just to check with the guys to see if they care. I told Brandon he could ride with Deputy Brown and that he would make it a fun night working with him. I sent a text message to Brett Brown to check with him if it was ok and he said that fine. I rode with Deputy Duly since one of the other guys I wanted to ride with was off. We arrived at post where Duly was waiting in his squad for me to show up. I put Brandon in the back and we were off to Busy Corner for dinner with all the other Deputies. After dinner Brandon went with Deputy Brown and I went with Deputy Duly. We started to serve some court papers but it was getting to late in the evening. We were up in Minonk and we got a call to assist Deputy Brown on a traffic stop. We went flying down I-39, blowing off cars at a high rate of speed which I won’t say how fast but you can image that. We arrived and he made an arrest on a guy for DUI. As we were there we go another call in Deer Creek for a 10-16 which is a domestic. There we were again flying down the road trying to get there in a hurry. After we found the house, we found out the people next door said there was loud music and they wanted it to stop. We weren’t too happy to hear that just because we put our life on the line trying to get there in a hurry. After that we drove around and went to different towns to talk to other officers and about 2:00am Saturday morning Brandon and I headed back to my place to get some sleep.

Go-Carts

As I roll over scrambling to shut my alarm clock of I stare at it with the clock reading 5:00. When I start to wake up I find myself in the warm shower wear I don’t ever want to get out until I hear the banging on the door and my dad telling me he needs to get in there before he goes to work. I drag myself back into my room where I just sit there for a few minutes. I gathered my thoughts and put on my uniform and out the door I went. When I arrived at the Sheriff’s office Deputy Naugle had me help him with his reports from the day before. We just finished reports when we got our first call. The caller advised us someone stole his cattle from him. Upon arrival we found out they had got loss and were in the neighbor’s yard.  We weren’t going to get out of the car since one of them was a bull. We waited for the owners to get there and we helped them round them up and get them into the pin. After that we went to Metamora High School where the Woodford County Dare officer was and Tazewell County Dare officers. They had go carts and they had go carts where they were teaching the kids to brake and stop in a safe way. It was fun watching them do that. After that we went for lunch and did a Roanoke Patrol and called it a day.

Peoria Fire Department

Beep...Beep...Beep....smack, crash shit I said as I roled out of bed this morning. I walked to the bathroom and threw myself into the shower. I stood there thinking about I shouldn't have stand at my girlfriends till 11:00 last night even though the BEARS game was on! 5:00 in the morning damn, I'm tired, cold and i just want to climb back under those warm blankets of mine and sleep. I walked back into my room and sat there the got my blue pants and a navy blue shirt out and put on a different uniform for the day. I jumped up into my truck and off to eureka I went. I ment up with one of my friends dad Mark. He is a Peoria Firefighter. I was going to ride/work with the Peoria Fire Department! As we drove to Peoria I couldn't wait to get there hoping we would have a fire or something good. I was dressed just like the other guys there, navy blue pants and a navy blue peoria fire/rescue shirt on. We had our very first call of the day a fire alarm! I was riding with Mark in the Ladder truck which by the way I got to go up in the bucket which was freakin awesome. The alarm was nothing so we came back to the fire house. We went out and did business checks and then went to walmart to get food for dinner. After that we went back to the fire house ate lunch and got a call for lifting assistance. After that were back at the fire house and I'm still working here until 9:00-10:00pm tonight.

A Drug Detail

Beep, beep, beep as a scramble up trying to turn my alarm clock off. I sat there looking at my clock with it reading 5:00, now 5:01, 5:02 and then a dragged my feet as I walked in the bathroom. After my shower I got my uniform on and walked out the door to my truck. Driving in I called Deputy Naugle to remind him that I was riding with him today and that I would be a post shortly. As I pulled up in a parking spot here he came around the corner in the car. I jumped in hoping we were going to be busy this morning but nope. Other Deputies were at a house for a home invasion that occurred earlier in the morning before we came on duty. We went up there to help out and found out some more information on who it could be. After that we headed off to Metamora going to the shell gas station again like what we do every Tuesday morning. Deputy Tipsword came walking in saying that he and a state police k-9 trooper were going to set up the drug checkpoint signs and see if they could get anything good. I was thinking Hell Yeah! I want to go with him. Naugle told me if I wanted to go with him I could so I did. We went up by Rt 116 at set them there. We were sitting there most of the day and we pulled over 2 cars. We got a call to Roanoke for a car accident. We weren’t there very long, we just filled out an accident report and gave it to both parties and off to lunch. After lunch we sat back out on the road and got a call to a tractor roll over and wagon is on top of the guy and like that we were heading that way. We got there and the fire department had the small trailer off of the guy’s leg and they were loading him up in the ambulance. Deputy Tipsword said lets go get the signs and call it a day. Another deputy went with us up there. We cleaned up all the signs and headed back to the post and called it a day!

A day with a Deputy Sheriff

Beep beep beep….smack. As I look alarm clock it reads 5:00am. Wow I said to myself I haven’t got up this early in a long time. I slowly climbed out of bed and headed into the bathroom to take a shower. After that I got ready to head in to the Sheriffs office. I sat there in my truck listing to the radio playing I was hoping it would be a fun and busy day but little did I know I would fall asleep in the squad car, we will get to that part later though. Deputy Naugle picked me up at the Sheriffs office around 6:00 and the day began. We drove to the west side of the county in the Metamora, Washburn area. Around 7:30 we went to the Shell Gas station in Metamora and drank coffee and read the paper while the other deputy and detective showed up before they went into the office. About 8:00 rolled around and the radio went off with a check the well being of a construction worker in Germantown Hills laying face down in the grass. BOOM out the door we go into the car and driving fast through town heading to the car with a second squad behind us. As we arrive on scene we found out the worker was just laying in a hole doing some work. After we cleared from there we went back to the gas station to talk some. And we got another call to a motorist assist in Eureka. By the time we got there they changed the tire and the lady was on her way. After the call everything went down hill from there. No more calls for 5 hours. We drove around and ran radar and no one felt like having to pay for a ticket because no one was speeding. I was getting bored and tired and then smack. Ha-ha said Naugle after I fell asleep and he smashed on the brakes. It was about 2:00 then and it was time for us to go home. He told me he would see me next week and maybe we would be busy.
